First six-figure yearling of the 2018 sales season

FEBRUARY 15, 2018

The Gainsborough Lodge sales team was responsible for its first six-figure yearling of the 2018 sales series when a quality first-crop daughter of Dissident sold for $110,000 on the opening night of the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale at the new Riverside Stables.

Offered as Lot 39, the third living foal of South Australian stakes winner Secret Status (by King Cugat) went through the ring during the historic opening session of the sale and was secured by leading Brisbane-based trainer Liam Birchley. Significantly, it proved to be the third consecutive year that Birchley has bought a member of a Gainsborough Lodge yearling sale consignment.

The Dissident filly was one of eight yearlings successfully sold by Gainsborough Lodge at the 2018 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale for an aggregate of $419,000.

Two other members of the Classic draft sold for sums of $80,000-plus.

A bay colt by Written Tycoon offered as Lot 272 was purchased by Waikato Bloodstock/Kilgravin Lodge $95,000 and is destined to be re-offered as a Ready-to-Run 2-year-old in New Zealand later in the year.

Also, a brown daughter of Bel Esprit catalogued as Lot 489 was acquired by Ben Currie Racing/Cameron Cooke Bloodstock [pictured] for $80,000 and now looks set to do her future racing out of the progressive Queensland trainer's nearby Toowoomba Stables.

Other members of our 2018 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale draft were sold to concerns located in regional New South Wales, Western Australia and China, illustrating the diverse nature of the buying bench assembled for the inaugural sale staged at the Riverside Stables complex.

In addition to the Dissident filly sold for $110,000 at the Classic Sale, it is also worth noting that a colt from the same stallion's first-crop proved to be Gainsborough Lodge's best result posted at the 2018 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. The fifth foal of Indulgent (by Stravinsky) fetched $90,000 when bought by the high-flying Adelaide trainer Lloyd Kennewell.

The Gainsborough Lodge sales team next heads back to the Gold Coast for the 2018 Magic Millions March Yearling Sale on March 19-20. Our draft comprises of 10 youngsters by a range of stallions including Queensland-based sires Love Conquers All, Falvelon, Top Echelon, Rothesay and Bradbury's Luck.
